MASUYA Masato

I was born in Noto Peninsula, Japan, in January 1969. I received Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1991, Master (agriculture) degree in Biotechnology in 1993, and Doctor (agriculture) degree in Biotechnology in 1996 from the University of Tokyo. I became an IMS fellow (postdoctorial fellow of Institute for Molecular Science, Okazaki National Research Instututes) in 1996, a Research Associate (“Josyu”: similar to the Assistant Professor in the U.S.) of Department of Information and Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering, Kagoshima University in November 1997, an Associate Professor of Information Processing Center, Kagoshima University in April 2000, an Associate Professor of Research Division of Information Technologies, Computing and Communications Center, Kagoshima University in April 2003, an Associate Professor of Information Systems Division, Computing and Communications Center, Kagoshima University in October 2006, and a Professor of Information Systems Division, Computing and Communications Center, Kagoshima University in November 2006. Also I became a Deputy Director of Computing and Communications Center, Kagoshima University in 2003-2007, and a Director of Computing and Communications Center, Kagoshima University in 2007-2009. Since April 2001 until January 2003, I had been an Assistant to the President for IT, Kagoshima University. I have been a licensed cook experienced in a Cafe and an Italian restaurant. I had also been a Technical Advisor of Micrografx K.K. (Japanese subsidiary of Micrografx, Inc.) and SYSOP of NIFTY Serve Micrografx Station. I am a member of IPSJ (Information Processing Society of Japan), IEICE (The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers), and The Biophysical Society of Japan. My research interests include the mathematical morphology, three-dimensional image processing, scientific visualization, protein tertiary structure prediction, visual communications, web application development, and ICT infrastructure development on isolate islands.
